Our readers often ask us if Nancy writes anything but poems about us! We like to keep this a secret, but in fact, she does. She writes all the time, about everything and everyone. Lots of funny poems and ditties about things that happen when she's bike riding, kayaking, gardening....or doing just about anything. If a friend should spill chocolate ice cream on their shirt...well...there's a ditty.
So, to show you what we mean, here's a little something she came up with on a walk along the sidewalks of Baldwinsville, NY (that's the town she lives in now). She was looking at all the lovely lawns, and then crossed a path into a wooded area. No matter how hard people had tried to get rid of the weeds in their yards, she noticed that this one very pesky weed kept showing up. Of course, we, as miniature horses, LOVE certain weeds. They add a lot of variety to our diet and many are yummy. Nancy likes them too, sometimes. She says they are tough little fellas who can grow in the most unlikely places, without watering or any TLC. So, here's her poem:
DANDY LION
Yellow mane and jagged leaf,
Like a lion's sharpened teeth.
Springing out in woods and lawn.
Growling out its summer song.
But when the days grow short and cold,
This jungle King turns gray and old.
Once a proud and royal dandy—
Now a puff of cotton candy.

Tally-ho!
